Description: 

Responsibilities
-Run existing sequence bioinformatics pipelines in the UNIX environment to support high-throughput research pipelines
-Troubleshoot bioinformatics pipelines independently and in collaboration with senior bioinformatics developers and global IT to ensure continuous data deliver
-Collaborate with leadership to design and execute experiments to evaluate novel bioinformatics algorithms. Report results within the expected timeframe and in a clear and concise fashion.
-Maintain cutting edge pipelines, modifying existing pipelines to utilize novel algorithms and provide new reports to stakeholders. Modifications will be done at the request of leadership.
-Effectively manage multiple projects at the same time and maintain an excellent on time delivery rate.
-Communicate clearly and effectively, in both written and oral forms, with stakeholders

Required Skills/Experience
-Experience working within the UNIX environment
-Experience working with shared compute resources (local servers and compute farms infrastructure)
-Experience with PERL programming
-Experience handling and analyzing raw (unmapped) Illumina sequencing reads
-Understanding of Illumina sequencing technology
-Excellent communication skills: both written and verbal
-Demonstrated problem solving skills related to bioinformatics

Desired Skills/Experience
-Experience with a LSF compute farm infrastructure
-BS/MS/PhD in Bioinformatics or a related field
-Experience with RNA-Seq read mapping and analysis
-Experience with de novo transcriptome assembly and annotation

Bioinformatics Programmer within Genome Infrastructure & Improvement team
Job Responsibilities
-Identify and evaluate novel bioinformatics tools and algorithms to meet emerging research needs
-Comparative analysis of similar bioinformatics tools to match solutions to research problems
-Provide ad hoc genome bioinformatics support to research teams across the Technology division
-Develop robust and automated bioinformatics pipelines to improve existing genome assemblies

Required Skills/Experience
-Experience working within the UNIX environment
-Experience working with shared compute resources (local servers and compute farms infrastructure)
-Experience with PERL, JAVA programming
-Experience handling and analyzing raw (unmapped) Illumina sequencing reads
-Understanding of Illumina sequencing technology
-Excellent communication skills: both written and verbal
-Demonstrated problem solving skills related to bioinformatics
-Note: This candidate will be expected to function autonomously on multiple projects that have a clearly defined expected outcome, but not a clear path to that outcome. A high degree of comfort evaluating, prioritizing and executing multiple potential research paths in tandem is required.
