Featured RNA-Seq Job – Senior/principle Scientist – Biotech Focused Venture Capital Firm

Foundation Medicine is seeking a talented, highly motivated and creative Senior/Principal Scientist with a strong background in NGS assay development and data interpretation to join the Molecular Biology and Sequencing (MBS) group. Experience with RNA-seq experimental design, data analysis and interpretation is strongly preferred. The MBS group plays a principal role in the development and implementation of clinical-grade NGS assays in collaboration with the Clinical and Computational Biology groups. Responsibilities of this position include integrating insights from bioinformatics data analysis with the underlying molecular biology of targeted next generation sequencing to drive assay development, implementation of new protocols in a regulated clinical lab
setting, and presentation and publication of research results. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology and next-generation sequencing, including RNA-seq, and be committed to the collaborative development of high quality genomic assays providing comprehensive molecular information about all classes of genomic alterations in oncology specimens.

Help lead development, optimization and implementation of targeted NGS-based DNA-seq and RNA-seq research and clinical assays on oncology specimens
Provide in-depth analysis and interpretation of RNA-seq NGS data using standard, and custom bioinformatics tools in collaboration with the Computational Biology and R&D groups
Support external collaborations with pharmaceutical and academic partners; present and publish scientific results in internal and peer-reviewed forums

Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology and biochemistry
Extensive experience and an in-depth understanding of the practices and principals of NGS, including the Illumina and Ion Torrent platforms, DNA-seq and RNA-seq protocols, and various target-enrichment approaches (e.g. multiplex-PCR, hybrid selection)
Basic NGS data management and analysis (e.g. SAMtools, IGV/Picard, Python/Perl); familiarity with RNAseq analysis tools (e.g. TopHat, Cufflinks)
Ability to clearly communicate scientific results in internal and external presentations and publications
Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects and work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast paced team environment

Cell biology, cancer biology & genomics
Familiarity with typical oncology specimens (e.g. FFPE, Blood, Bone Marrow), molecular diagnostic assays (e.g. FISH, IHC, cytogenetics) and the extraction of nucleic acids
Experience with clinical and pharmaceutical study design

PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Cancer Genomics, or equivalent preferred
Minimum 8-10 years working in Industry and/or Academia
Demonstrated presentation skills and track record of publication in high-impact journals
Demonstrated management and leadership skills
