Post-doc position available – the ideal candidate would have substantial experience in RNA sequencing, and RNA isolation

Job Summary:

The Auditory Regeneration Lab of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a motivated postdoctoral fellow to work on regeneration of the auditory nerve.  Our group is interested both in vitro and in vivo aspect of the regeneration.  In order to achieve this goal, we are currently using multidisciplinary approaches including genomics, bioinformatics, cellular biology, and molecular biology.  The ideal candidate would have substantial experience in RNA sequencing, and RNA isolation.  Applicants must have a Ph.D. in genetics & genomics, neurosciences, molecular biology or a related discipline.  Preference will be given to applicants with excellent techniques in molecular biology and in-depth knowledge of bioinformatics.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the auditory regeneration lab including maintaining the supplies, equipment and ordering of necessary materials.
  • Conducts laboratory experiments including RNA isolations, RNA sequencing, and in situ hybridization as well as others to study human spiral ganglion neurons.
  • Helps write grants and compete for funding.
  • Supervises students and other techs working in the auditory regeneration lab.
  • Helps a PI write and contribute to publications/presentations resulting from research done in the lab.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. in genetics & genomics, neurosciences, molecular biology or a related discipline.
  • The candidate must have acquired a solid publication record and mastered biostatistical tools for genetic analysis, next-generation sequencing analysis, programming at least in one language (preferably R).  We are expecting high motivation and ability to work independently as well as part of the team.
