The Stergiopoulos lab in the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of California Davis (http://sterg001.wix.com/stergiopoulos-lab) is seeking for a highly skilled and motivated post-doc in the field of RNAseq and transcriptomics. The lab primarily studies the molecular mechanisms of fungal pathogenesis on plants with an emphasis on characterizing bioinformatically and by wet lab analysis critical molecular and cellular functions required for virulence. As part of our studies we use a systems-level approach that integrates genome-wide transcriptome profiling (deep RNAseq), mass spectrometrybased targeted proteomics, and functional analysis of selective gene candidates to study the epigenetic mechanisms that control gene expression and transcriptome diversity of virulence associated genes in fungi. In line with these research lines, the successful candidate will work on analyzing complex and cross-species genomic, deep-RNAseq, and mass spectrometry-generated data to systematically characterize key genes and processes mediating fungal infections on plants, including the identification and visualization of alternative splicing events.
Highly motivated candidates should have received recently a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology or related fields. A strong and proven record of scientific accomplishment by peer-reviewed publications as well as experience in analyzing highthroughput omics data, particularly genome-wide RNAseq and mass-spec data is a must for this position. Candidates should also be proficient in at least one of the common programming languages used in bioinformatics (C,C++, Java etc.) and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Participation in the preparation of research grant applications and reports is also expected. The position is initially for one year, renewable for a second year upon performance. Salary is based on experience and qualifications according to UC Davis guidelines. UC Davis provides a highly vibrant intellectual atmosphere, a pleasant college environment and career development activities specifically designed for Post-doctoral scholars. UC Davis ranks No. 1 in the world for agricultural teaching and research, according to the QS World University Rankings.
Interested candidates should send to firstname.lastname@example.org a single pdf file that includes a cover letter, their full CV, a statement of research interests, and contact information of three references. The position is available immediately (January 2016) and will remain open until filled.
