Position Summary: UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center; its Breast Cancer SPORE and the UNC Department of Genetics are recruiting for a tenure track assistant professor with a substantial and sustained track record of peer reviewed publications in the bioinformatic analysis of genetic and genomic data. UNC Lineberger is a major site of NCI’s Cancer Genome Atlas research with an emphasis on RNA sequencing and combined bioinformatic analysis of multiple omics data. In addition, UNC Lineberger supports its longstanding UNC Breast Cancer SPORE grant that has funded and maintained the landmark Carolina Breast Cancer Study. This population based North Carolina study is now completing Phase 3 with over 5000 breast cancer cases and an emphasis on the disparities between African Americans and Caucasians. This new position will work with the continuing TCGA effort, the Breast Cancer SPORE and the Cancer Center’s Breast Cancer Program. There will be a research emphasis on genomic, genetic analysis of breast cancer clinical and population samples. Faculty appointment will be in the Department of Genetics in the School of Medicine. The Department of Genetics and the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center have a long standing policy of successful collaboration with a focus on the recruitment, mentoring and promotion of cancer geneticists and genomicists.

Education Requirements: Doctoral degree

Qualification and Experience: Successful candidates should have extensive experience with large data sets such as the TCGA and its analysis, a proven track record of large project integration of the sequencing and bioinformatics pipelines; experience with Cloud based storage and analysis and an in depth knowledge of breast cancer etiology and genomics/genetics. The position will require a high level of interaction with teams of breast cancer and other genomics researchers, and full integration with the core bioinformatics and computational medicine groups. A track record of post-doctoral or faculty level funding in the area of breast cancer will be a one criteria for selection as will an established track record of team science publication. Evidence of team leadership potential would be first authorship on genetics/genomics large-scale research and a record of integration with teams across institutions, a necessity in this era of large clinical or public health genomic/bioinformatic research.
