Researchers from Sun Yat-sen University have developed an extensive new database that could deepen our understanding of small noncoding RNAs, or sncRNAs, in cancer. These tiny RNA molecules, which include miRNAs, piRNAs, and tRNA- and rRNA-derived fragments, play important roles in regulating how genes behave in cells. While miRNAs have long been known as key biomarkers in cancer, much less is understood about other types of sncRNAs.

Graphical Abstract

To address this gap, the research team collected 190 public datasets containing over 11,000 samples from 19 different cancer types and created the Pan-Cancer Small Non-Coding RNA Database (PCsRNAdb). This online resource provides researchers with detailed information about sncRNA sequences, abundance, and their potential gene targets. The platform also includes tools for analyzing expression levels, studying survival outcomes, and exploring how these RNAs interact in complex regulatory networks. By organizing such a large amount of data into an accessible format, PCsRNAdb will make it easier for scientists to uncover how small noncoding RNAs contribute to cancer development and progression.

Availability – PCsRNAdb is freely accessible to users with no registration needed at http://pcsrnadb.cloudna.cn.
