Description The Ocular Genomics Institute at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School is seeking a talented postdoctoral fellow to join our team to study how mutations in RNA splicing factors cause retinal degeneration. Mutations in genes that encode RNA splicing factors are common causes of the inherited retinal degeneration retinitis pigmentosa (RP), which in turn is an important cause of vision loss. Since RNA splicing is a ubiquitous process, it is not clear why mutations in genes that encode components of the spliceosome lead to retina-specific neurodegeneration. We are investigating the pathogenesis of RNA splicing factor retinal degeneration using a combination of cell-based and animal models of disease. This includes use of genome-edited human induced pluriopotent stem cell (hiPSC) – derived cells and RNA-seq analyses to test the hypothesis that aberrant splicing in retinal cells underlies these disorders. We are also working to develop gene therapy for one of the genetic forms of these disorders. The project is supported by a newly renewed R01 and private foundation funding.Interested candidates should send their CV, a cover letter, and contact information for 3 references to:
