We are seeking a highly motivated individual with expertise in gene expression analysis (RNA-Seq), cancer genomics (including cancer cell line screens or somatic mutation analysis), statistical genetics (germline association studies), evolutionary sequence analysis, or text mining to join Vertex’s research site in Boston, MA. You will report directly to the Sr. Director of Vertex’s newly created Computational Genomics department. Depending on qualifications and level of expertise you will be primarily focused on developing and applying computational and statistical methods to analyze large data sets in order to help identify potential lead compounds and molecular targets.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:  Enable, perform and support computational analyses for a wide range of research projects.  Evaluate commercial software, and recommend purchases.  Work with the internal methods development group to develop and deploy relevant software tools.
MS degree in human/statistical genetics, (cancer) genomics, or a related field in the biological data sciences.  0-4 years of productive, relevant post-doctoral and/or industry experience.  Solid understanding of statistics and expertise in R, Bioconductor, relational databases (SQL), and one or more scripting languages: (Python, Perl, BioPython, BioPerl).  In-depth knowledge of genome annotation (e.g. Ensembl and UCSC) and pathway biology resources.  A proven track record in computational analysis of large “omics” data sets (e.g. RNA-seq, whole-genome/exome sequencing).  Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively across our global research organization.
